My thoughts on circumcision (because I have a lot of opinions about random shit)

First and foremost: yes, it's OK for religious reasons, I'm not gonna encroach upon your beliefs. If that's what you wanna do, then go for it (I'm not gonna say I fully support it, but I can't stop you).

Similarly, it's OK if it's absolutely necessary from a medical standpoint. Like, if the baby is gonna have major issues or even die from not being circumcised, I can set aside my opinions in such a situation.

BUT...

if you just choose to circumcise your baby for a non-essential reason like those listed above, for example if you're just like "it's hygenic" or "it looks better" you need to be locked the fuck up. Now, I get that circumcision became popular in the United States sometime in the 1800s for the reason of hygiene. Now that was back when running water meant a waterfall full of fish turds, so yes, back then, it would've been hygenically wise to circumcise. But for the last 100 years or so, most of America's citizens have had perfectly fine running water, or at the very least, access to running water via friends or public showers, so the "hygenic" benefits are completely null and void these days. There's a little thing called spending an extra 30 seconds in the shower. You should try it sometime before hacking up your baby.

Then there's the excuse of "it looks better."

You do realize that means you're applying your own sexual preferences to a baby who cannot consent, and subsequently depriving them of an important part of their genitalia. It's what their body naturally came out of the womb with, so obviously it's there for a reason. Of course, there is a bit of irony to be had in that last statement, as most humans still have an appendix, despite that organ having lost its function hundreds of years ago through evolution and humanity's overall progression. But foreskin still continues to be present on most males and other penis-havers in areas like western Europe and many parts of Asia as well as Oceania (Australia, New Zealand, etc. for the uninitiated). So clearly it's not going anywhere. It just happens that America is the somehow one of the only western nations that primarily circumcises babies despite not having a majority population of any religion that requires it (Islam and Judaism require it, but Christianity is more neutral, with variance depending on denomination).

Overall, what I'm getting at here is that parents should take the time and effort to research the benefits and drawbacks of circumcison before grabbing the scissors and going to town on little Billy. There are some benefits from circumcision, don't get me wrong. But for every benefit, there seem to be a number of drawbacks. Hygiene is no longer a valid excuse, and it hasn't been for decades. Appearance is subjective, and it's kinda gross to apply your own preference on the appearance of genitalia to someone else before they're even fully sapient, let alone mature enough to make an informed decision. If Billy wants to get circumcised later in life, by all means, he can do that. But let him experience the life of a bodily whole human being first.

Hopefully, you've enjoyed this talk, though I fail to see how most people could enjoy some retard on the internet rambling for an entire webpage about his hatred of circumcision :/

and hopefully you'll consider doing your research, and maybe even refraining from circumcising your baby. Your baby will thank you.
